Thinking About Upgrading Your Septic Tank?
First of all, are you sure your system needs to be upgraded? The main problem with septic tanks is usually that the soak away field becomes damaged and the tank will not drain properly. If the tank is draining into the soakaway and there’s no discharge to a water course, then you probably don’t need to spend anything on the tank.
You will have to consider an upgrade if the tank discharges to a water course. The new Environmental regulations for England require that any discharge to a water course from a septic tank will not be allowed from 1st January 2020. If your septic tank does discharge like this, then you will need to plan to install a package treatment plant to replace the tank.
You will have to consider an upgrade to a package treatment plant if your current septic tank discharges to a water course and you plan to sell the property.
You will have to consider an upgrade if you are planning to extend the number of bedrooms at the property or if you convert outbuildings to habitable spaces.
